                              Reading:

It is important to read lots of books with your child every night. Children love to hear their favorite stories over and over. It is important to read to them at least 15 minutes every night but more is better. Here are some steps you can follow:

                              1) Before reading: Take a "picture walk" with your child. This is a time where you and your child just simply look at only  at the picture and ask them to make predictions about what will happen or describe what they see in the pictures.

                              2) When reading to your child: - Make sure they can see the pictures
                                - Use plenty of expression and if possible change your voice.
-Slide your finger under each word and this will help promote one-to one text recognition, This also helps them learn how prints work and that we read from left to right and top to bottom.

                              3) Questions to ask after reading: - Ask them if they can tell you what their favorite part was.

-What did you like about the ending?
                                    - Did the story remind you of anything that has happened to you?

                              Math:

-Have your child practice counting different objects.
-Have your child find different items at home that come in the following shapes: square, circle, rectangle, triangle and oval.
-Have you child sort items in different groups ( color, size...)
-When taking a walk have your children read the numbers they see or point out the different shapes they see.
